Atmos Certification Courses

The Environmental, Health and Safety Industry needs trained and qualified professionals.

Asbestos Abatement Worker – Initial

Program Length: 32 Hours

The Asbestos Abatement Initial worker course is a 32-hour training required for individuals involved in the asbestos- containing materials (ACM) industry.  The course is required for all personnel to conduct gross removal ACM in construction projects

Lead Abatement – Worker Review

This 8-hour course will provide students with the knowledge on how lead abatement is performed in a variety of settings. You will also learn how to safely handle lead materials during construction projects which impact surfaces coated with lead paint. This lead training course will provide the foundation necessary to work in a variety of lead construction projects and serves as the entry point for other lead-related work.

This 40-hour safety training program provided by OSHA-authorized trainers. It’s an in-depth, 40-hour training program mandated by OSHA under the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard (29 CFR 1910.120). This course is specifically designed for workers involved in the cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, emergency response operations for releases of hazardous substances, and certain operations at treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facilities.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Program Length: 2 Hours

A Bloodborne Pathogens class is a training program designed to educate individuals on the risks associated with bloodborne pathogens and how to protect themselves and others from exposure. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms present in human blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The construction industry needs qualified and skilled craft professionals. By expanding the availability of apprenticeship programs and elevating the skills of the local workforce, we can help address the shortage of skilled professionals in the Washington DC metro area.

Become an Apprentice

Atmos Apprentice Classroom Programs are designed for workers who aspire to learn the skills and best practices of a particular industry. Each training program includes classwork and hands-on learning assignments. Our program follows industry standard requirements that includes at least 2000 hours of structured on-the-job-training under the guidance of a qualified journeymen, and a recommended minimum of 144 hours per year of job-related classroom instruction from a qualified training program.

These focused activities prepare the apprentice for in the field training with an experienced tradesperson who serves as their mentor for applying their knowledge and performing the trade in a work setting.

Glass and Glazing

Program Length : 3 years

The Glass & Glazing program is a comprehensive training program in partnership with the National Glass Association (NGA) designed to prepare individuals for a successful career in the glazing industry. Glaziers installs and fabricates glass and framing systems in residential and commercial buildings like high-rise hotels, education, and hospital facilities and low-rise shopping centers. Students will complete a total of 6,000 hours on the job-training over a period of four years.  Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate from the National Center for Construction and Educational Research (NCCER), which serves as recognition of their knowledge and expertise in the glazing trade.

The Glass & Glazing program

Program Length: 4 years

The Plumbing program is in partnership with the National Center for Construction and Educational Research (NCCER) and is designed for students to learn how to install and repair pipes that carry liquids or gases to and in commercial businesses, homes, and industrial facilities. Students will complete a total of 8,000 hours on the job-training over a period of four years. Upon completion, graduates will receive an NCCER certification and can pursue their state journeyman licensure.

The Plumbing program

Program Length: 3 years

The Iron worker program teaches students to use iron, steel, ornamental lead, bronze, etc., in the erection of industrial, commercial, or large residential buildings. Iron workers install and reinforce concrete to safely serve as the supporting structure for large buildings, roads, and dams. Students will complete a total of 4,000 hours on the job-training over a period of two years. During this apprenticeship, students earn while they learn through on-the-job training and receive classroom instruction from trained and experienced professionals at Atmos. Upon completion, graduates will receive an NCCER certification and can pursue their state journeyman licensure and earn a pay raise.

The Iron worker program

Program Length: 2 years

The program is designed to teach students how to install walls, ceilings, as well as place insulation, soundproofing, and firestopping materials behind and onto walls and ceilings. This is a two-year program designed to cover a range of drywall skills for drywall installation and finishing, including wall and ceiling installation and placing insulation, soundproofing, and firestopping materials. Students will complete a total of 4,000 hours on the job-training over a period of two years and graduates will receive an NCCER certification upon completion of the program.

Drywall program

Program Length: 2 years

The Pipe layer program is in partnership with NCCER and is designed to teach students how to assemble and connect pipe systems for water mains, sewers, and drains. It also includes pipelaying for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Students will complete a total of 4,000 hours on the job-training over a period of two years and graduates will receive an NCCER certification upon completion of the program.

The Pipe layer program

Heavy Equipment Operators (HEO) not only work on regular construction sites but also on infrastructure projects. The program is designed to teach students about the rigging, delivery and cutting of pipe, as well as information important to pipelaying such as materials, elevation, site and trench safety, foundation stabilization, testing and maintenance. Students will complete a total of 8,000 hours on the job-training over a period of four years. Upon completion, graduates will receive an NCCER certification and can pursue their state journeyman licensure.
